Head and Neck Cancer Research Program

Many exciting developments in basic and translational research in head and neck cancer have been made possible by our grateful patients and donors like yourselves. Mount Sinai is now a leader in minimally-invasive head and neck surgery, and cutting edge clinical trials for head and neck cancers. We deeply appreciate your involvement, and hope that you consider supporting our research initiatives, today.
The mission of the Head and Neck Cancer Research Program is to increase our scientific understanding of the unique biology of squamous cell carcinoma, thyroid cancer, and salivary tumors, and to use this information to change the way head and neck cancers are diagnosed and treated. Focus areas within the program include:

  • Transoral and robotic surgery techniques to minimize patient morbidity while maintaining excellent oncologic outcomes
  • HPV-related head and neck cancer
  • Immune-based therapy for head and neck cancers
  • Molecular pathways of tumor dormancy and tumor growth
  • Optical imaging for real-time margin detection in head and neck cancer

Our mission is to develop insights into head and neck cancer biology that will lead to new strategies for treatment and diagnosis of head and neck cancers. We accomplish this goal through basic research into the molecular biology and immunology of head and neck cancer, patient-oriented translational research, and cutting edge clinical trials. While our investigators have an outstanding track record of obtaining support from the NIH, industry, and foundations for cancer research, philanthropy plays a critical role in providing “seed” funding for innovative new projects and support for program development.
The Head and Neck Cancer Research Program includes basic cancer biologists as well as physician-investigators who work collaboratively towards improved understanding and treatment of head and neck cancers. Through a truly multidisciplinary approach uniting disparate areas of cancer research and treatment we will accelerate innovation and provide a platform for rapid translation of basic discoveries to clinical trials.
To enhance of our life-changing research, we ask for your generous support. Every gift helps us better reach our goal of changing the standard-of-care for diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers.
